TRACEY WINS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW GOLD MEDAL!
Tracey Griffin has won Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal at the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition, an outstanding success.
Tracey and her fellow competitors had to create a never ending circle to depict something or someone that represented Chelsea Flower show. Tracey’s stunning design represented the melting pot of horticulture that is Chelsea; with so many flowers and influences from all around the world. The circle that had two layers of hundreds of pieces of dogwood that formed the base for heads of many orchids, of an array of colours and varieties, button green Chrysanthemum heads, mini succulents, tendrils capped with berries, to name a few, all combined to create this stunning design.
This is such a special medal for Tracey – her first Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal, to go with her previous silver and silver-gilt medals. Tracey said “I’m absolutely thrilled, I was aiming for high, and so delighted to get my gold medal – Hooray!”
RHS Chelsea Flower Show is the beating heart of the flower world, showcasing the very best designers the world has to offer, and with this being the centenary year it’s an extra special year to win gold in ‘The Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition’
The design took several days to create but Tracey said how it was so worth-while. The world class judges said the design was outstanding, so striking and immaculately made, there was only two gold medals awarded to the Florists which highlights the standard of work produced by Tracey, the entire level of work by all the florists was exceptionally high but Tracey came away the a highest medal place – GOLD! 85 points are required to gain gold Tracey’s design gained 90 points!

Tracey thrives on competitions and says “it’s such a great opportunity to just go wild with ideas and come up with designs that I’d otherwise probably never create, this year’s schedule was particularly enjoyable.”
Just to compete in the final competition at Chelsea was an incredible achievement; each designer had to win at one of the UK Heats to receive their invitation, at the show there were just 16 finalists but an initially over 600 florists entered heats to try and get to compete. The British Floristry Association that organised the event with the RHS have run the UK heats for the last 5 years to ensure that everyone with the skills has the opportunity to compete and win a Chelsea Flower Show Medal and that the very best professional floristry is showcased. The designs are staged in the grand pavilion central to the show, the show receives over 160,000 visitors and tickets for this centenary year sold out in record time.
Tracey had previously won a Silver & Silver-gilt RHS Chelsea Flower show medal in the Chelsea Florist of the year Competitions but has hankered for this gold!
Without doubt Chelsea Flower Show is one of the world most prestigious floriculture events. A Chelsea Flower show gold medal is a converted medal indeed. Tracey has an impressive list of competition wins under her belt but this is the one that tops them all!
